CHANGE MAKER INSIGHTS —

Get things done

By Amy Radin

Hello,

If we haven’t met yet, I’m Amy Radin — former Fortune 100 innovation exec, now advisor, keynote speaker, Columbia instructor, and author.

After pioneering corporate innovation and digital transformations as one of the world’s first Chief Innovation Officers at Citi, and now teaching at Columbia University, I discovered why most change efforts fail: organizations treat change like a top-down process when it’s actually a coalition-building challenge.

My keynotes, workshops, newsletter, and LinkedIn give audiences concrete frameworks to build stakeholder coalitions for transformative change, replacing outdated change management models.

Please read on for:

* A powerful mindset shift that turns resistance into momentum

* A short video on the value of imagining failure

* A new L&D offering in the works to help teams build influence and advocate for what matters

Thanks for being here and feel free to let me know what resonates with you and your teams.

Use Resistance to Get Things Done

For years, I treated resistance like a wall to break down — and I know that I’m not alone.

Since then, I’ve learned: resistance can reveal the path forward.

  • That “difficult” stakeholder questioning your AI rollout? They’re showing you where trust needs to be built.
  • The compliance officer pushing back? They’re pointing to governance gaps that can derail you.
  • The team concerned about job loss? They’re highlighting where your change management plan falls short.

Resistance contains intelligence that you can act upon.

In my latest Fast Company article, I share how leaders can reframe pushback as a source of insight, and how to use my Strategic Advocacy framework to turn that resistance into momentum. Read it here.

Why Imagining Failure Works

Recently, I led a workshop focused on getting things done in complex organizations, and kicked off with this surprising prompt:

“Imagine the spectacular failure of your biggest project.”

Why begin this way?

Because in large organizations, even the smartest ideas get derailed unless you build the foresight to spot roadblocks early.

This exercise helps teams anticipate resistance, surface hidden risks, and strengthen their strategy before the stakes are high.

I break down this technique and why it works in this short video.

What new growth projects are you focused on this summer?

Together with my colleague Greg Satell, I’m co-developing a new L&D offering: Building Influence Through Strategic Advocacy. This one-day workshop is designed to help emerging leaders champion ideas and drive change.

We’re in early conversations with beta partners at special pricing. If you’re interested in strengthening influence and advocacy across your leadership pipeline, let’s connect.

Warm regards,
